Traffic Accidents Dropped by 42.3 Percent in Two Weeks

Shenzhen police punished 35,286 drivers for parking illegally and slapped fines totaling 7.44 million yuan (US$1.21 million) between April 27 and May 9, after imposing stricter rules and heavier fines for traffic violations.

The number of traffic congestion and accidents, especially during the May Day holiday, has dropped.

Traffic accidents dropped by 42.3 percent to 2,574 compared with the same period last year, and by 5.62 percent compared with the previous two weeks.

Shenzhen traffic police checked for a total of 85,735 violations in 30 categories that police were focused on clamping down on, such as illegal parking, illegally using emergency lanes and vehicle-refitting.
