Several hundred apartments in a Bao’an District residential community that were slated for welfare-oriented government housing have been called a waste of resources because they remain vacant at least five years after their construction. People commenting online questioned why the subsidized homes in Pingzhou, Xixiang Subdistrict, had not been allocated despite applications from potential buyers. Residents have called the unoccupied homes a huge waste, as apartments in a neighboring community cost nearly 20,000 yuan (US$3,188) per square meter. Renting an 80 square-meter apartment in the area costs about 3,000 yuan per month. Related Article |
