Passengers must exit within four hours of entering the subway or be fined, according to new regulations released by Beijing Subway and starting from December 28th.

Tips to dodge or minimize subway fares have gone viral on the Chinese Internet ahead of the final price adjustment plan being released.

Beijing Subway said that using different subway tickets on a journey is a violation for which passengers will face penalties of up to 90 yuan ($14.60).

It takes 143 minutes to travel from Suzhuang terminal station on the Fangshan line to Fengbo terminal station on line 15, the longest possible route on the Beijing subway. Four hours of travelling, including all transfers, is quite a long period for most commuters.

The new regulations are designed to ensure people follow the correct procedures. In addition, Beijing Traffic Management Bureau said they would also increase supervision on attempted fare dodging.
