Low Carbon Communities to Be Built in Beijing

In the next three years, Beijing plans to build 100 low carbon communities in 16 districts or counties.

Main tasks of creating low carbon community are to encourage residents to save energy, electricity and water, to travel in green ways, to collect rainwater and recycle it, to classify the garbage, to recycle the waste and promote roof greening accordingly, etc.

It is estimated that 0.7 tons of carbon dioxide will be reduced each year per head. There are 22,000 families, approximately 64,000 people in that five communities where 45,000 tons of carbon dioxide will be reduced ideally.

The first group of low carbon communities includes Dongcheng Min’an, Xicheng Fenghuiyuan, Chaoyang Fanhaiguoji South, Changping Xinlongcheng, Fangshan Jiazhoushuijun, which will be built by the end of 2015.
