China to Boost New Energy Vehicles

In a bid to combat ‪pollution and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, the Chinese government has said that it aims to have nearly 300,000 new energy vehicles on the roads in the country by 2020.

The Ministry of Transport said on Wednesday that it will work to ensure that there are 200,000 ‪new energy buses and 100,000 taxies and delivery vehicles plying the roads within five years. 

A recent guideline issued by the transportation authority calls for measures such as encouraging the construction of charging facilities and providing tax benefits and subsidies to promote the purchase of new energy cars.

China manufactured 11,900 new energy vehicles in January and February 2015, a five-fold increase compared to the same time last year, said the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Tuesday.
