GEF Funds Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use in Huangshan

A project of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use has been initiated in Huangshan, one of the most famous scenic mountain ranges, which is the first tourism based project being funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by Huangshan municipality.

2.72 million USD were invested into this project, which includes establishing a biodiversity conservation researching centre, building a survey and database and conducting investigation and assessment on natural reserves, and others 35 items in total. Education and conservation will be further developed in all the nature reserves in Huangshan city.

Huangshan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, well known for sunsets, peculiarly shaped granite peaks, Pine trees, hot springs, winter snow, and views of the clouds from above. 

The GEF is the largest public funder of projects to improve the global environment. An independently operating financial organization, the GEF provides grants for projects related to biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants.
