SHENZHEN Golf Club in central Futian District will be turned into a public park after its right to use the land expires in September this year, according to a development plan by Futian decision-makers announced at a meeting Tuesday.
During the meeting, Futian District government leaders, district congress deputies and political advisers reviewed the draft development plans for industrial transformation, compulsory education and urban space development in Futian.
Covering an area of 1.36 million square meters, Shenzhen Golf Club is located in the central area of Futian to the south of Shennan Boulevard. It is only 8 minutes’ drive to the Huanggang Checkpoint. It was opened in 1985.
In July last year, the city’s planning authority said Shenzhen Golf Club, said to be the first golf club in Shenzhen, will be turned into an area that integrates cultural and public facilities with local ecology. But it didn’t give specifics.
An opinion poll conducted in August last year about the land’s future use had more than 30,000 respondents. Most residents expressed opposition to renewing the land contract for the golf club.
Some proposed to building a number of public sports facilities to the place, such as a basketball court, a soccer field and badminton courts, while others said a public school should be built to ease crowding in the city’s primary and middle schools. Shenzhen Daily
