Shenzhen Futian Railway Station, the largest underground station in Asia, came into service on Dec. 30, with high-speed trains to Guangzhou coming into operation.
The railway line to Hong Kong is expected to be completed in 2018. It will enable passengers to travel to Hong Kong by high-speed trains in 15 minutes. “I hope the Hong Kong side will set reasonable ticket prices, and both sides should have joint border checkpoints to save passengers’ time,” Hu said. Ticket counters and self-help ticket machines are located on floor B1, where passengers can transfer to Metro lines 2 and 3 as well as to the future line 11 inside the station. Passengers can transfer to lines 1 and 4 at nearby Metro stations. The waiting hall on floor B2 has 1,200 seats and can accommodate 3,000 passengers. Four train platforms are located on floor B3.
There are three bus stops near the Fuitan CBD railway station, served by 33 bus routes, including seven routes put into operation Monday. The routes go across the city and include service to Shekou and Nantou Checkpoint.
The station has three entrances on the ground floor with passages to floor B2, meaning passengers can enter the waiting hall directly without going to floor B1. One entrance is located near the intersection of Fuhua No. 1 Road and Yitian Road, with the second one around the crossway of Shennan Boulevard and Yitian Road and the third one near the Jiangsu Bank Building. The underground parking lot below the Civic Center and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange serve the new railway station.
