The news that Wuhan is to build the city’s biggest man-made lake caused a sensation within Wuhan city. Some people agree on this planning, but more people complain about it. Some nettizen said frankly: lots of natural lakes were filled before, why bother to excavate new man-made lake now? I don’t agree to build new man-made lake. To conserve the natural lake is better. According to the statistic of Wuhan Water Affairs Bureau, there are only 38 lakes in the Wuhan’s downtown while there were 127 at the beginning of 1950s. The number of lakes is declining whilst the pollution to the lakes is continuing. The citizens in Wuhan have been criticizing the management towards lakes for a long time. Professor Shang Chongsheng of Wuhan University commented that: There is no contradiction between building man-made lakes and conserve the natural lakes. How to maintain is the most important point after the construction of the man-make lake. News Resource: wpl.gov.cn |
