Our thanks go to Executive Architect Dennis Lee of ARCHITECTURE:INNOVATIV for enabling a visit to the construction site of a new commercial conversion project in Kwun Tong designed by MVRDV. 

Barry was able to lead students from Penn State and Hong Kong Universites in being able to see at first hand the huge changes being undertaken and in understanding the difficulties involved in designing  and executing such a project in Hong Kong.

The project requires stripping the building down to its primary structure; inserting glass between columns and beams as floor and ceiling finishes, partitions and doors to clearly distinguish old from new and demonstrate how the building works right down to the installations. 

Due to open next year the offices will form another part of the renaissance transforming Kowloon East into the new CBD of Hong Kong.
