Shenzhen Municipal Urban Planning, Land and Resources Commission had completed requisition compensation for two plots of land for the relocation of an oil depot in Dongjiaotou, Shekou, Nanshan District.

The land on Diaoshen Mountain at the border of Guangming and Guanlan Subdistrict, Longhua New Area will be developed into a storage facility for petroleum products, while the land in Zhangkengjing in Guanlan Subdistrict will be used for the storage of propane.

In the past few years, Shenzhen residents and lawmakers have called for the relocation of the oil depot in Shekou, where about 300,000 residents live, citing concerns about safety risks.

There are seven to eight housing estates within 500 meters of the Dongjiaotou oil depot, more than 10,000 people living within 1 kilometer and at least 100,000 people within 5 kilometers.

Relocation of the Dongjiaotou oil depot was raised at the first session of the third Municipal People’s Congress in 2000. Over the past 14 years, relevant government agencies have followed up a number of times by saying the depot’s relocation had been put on the agenda, but nothing had been done until now.
