Nanjing, Jiangsu Province
Nanjing recently launched a management measure to encourage roof greening. For public buildings of institutes and residential areas, if the greening areas are more than 1000 square meters and 300 square meters respectively, 10% of the investment money will be awarded.

Nanjing has been promoting roof greening for over 10 ten years, but little effect has been achieved.

“One-time government reward can’t motivate people to promote roof greening”, Wu Jinrong, a senior Landscape Architect said. He suggested that the government should formulate relevant policies and regulations, technical manuals and rules for implementation, clarifying which building is suitable for roof greening, how to undertake it and who is going to pay and maintain it.
