Shenzhen drivers can download an application software known as Yitingche (Easy to Park, in English) to get familiar with the system for roadside parking starting from June. The software will provide 1,000 units of virtual currency for drivers to park their vehicles at the 1,673 roadside parking spaces in four areas. Starting from June 26, software users can prepay for roadside parking in registered accounts in preparation for parking fee collection, which will officially take effect starting July 1. Drivers can also call the 96001 service hotline for registration and payment of the roadside parking fees. Drivers will be allowed five minutes of free parking before fee calculations commence. They will also receive a reminder on their mobile phone 10 minutes before their time expires. If a driver does not vacate a space before his or her time expires, the driver will be charged double the usual fee for the time the space is occupied after expiration, the center said. Shenzhen will have 3 million registered vehicles on its roads by the end of this year, according to the transportation commission. Yet, there are now only about 800,000 parking spaces across the city. News Resource |
