Huaxi Village's Imitated Buildings
Recently, an imitation of Sphinx was found in Shijiazhuang, Henan Province (Near Beijing) which aroused lots of netizens’ interest. Some spokesman said the imitated Sphinx is a temporary movie set which will be demolished when the movie shooting is over. At the same time, he also expressed his respect to Egypt’s cultural relic.

Rao, the director of UNESCO World Heritage Centre, said they haven’t received Egypt’s official complaint about the Chinese imitated Sphinx Event and they will coordinate both sides to sort this problem out.

It is not surprised to find various imitated buildings in China, some of which are applied to some local municipal buildings. It is estimated that White House is the most frequently copied.

Huaxi Village, the richest village in China, has a couple of imitated buildings such as Arch of Triumph, United States Capitol, Sydney Opera House, Tiananmen Suqare, Jinshui Bridge of the Imperial Palace.

Some Chinese experts said that these imitated buildings reflect that Chinese people lack of cultural confidence and a sense of identity. Speaking from the culture and politics angle, to imitate the world famous buildings is still not appropriate even though you haven’t infringed other’s intellectual property right.
