The second phase of a plan to reduce Hong Kong’s Frontier Closed Area (FCA) will be implemented June 10 and open up 710 hectares of land for public access, the Hong Kong Security Bureau announced. The move will allow free access to six Hong Kong villages that currently are accessible only with a permit: Tak Yuet Lau, Liu Pok, Lutheran New Village, Ma Tso Lung, Lok Ma Chau and Ha Wan. Established in 1951 to prevent illegal immigrants from entering Hong Kong or conducting other illegal activities, the FCA is fenced along its perimeter to serve as a buffer between the closed border and the rest of the territory. Vehicles will be permitted free access to the area when the traffic ban is lifted June 10, but traffic restrictions on certain road sections will remain in place. Read More |
