Barry acted as a guest reviewer on 16th April 2014 for the U6 final degree show at Chinese University of Hong Kong Department of Architecture.

The 3rd year degree students were looking at sites on Yim Tin Tsai Island near Sai Kung, with differing characters.

The project program 'articulation' was to create a 3000 m² building with interactive workshops and exhibition space to accommodate 2-300 persons (500-800 m2). The design challenge was to create a single unified building (as opposed to a series of independent pavilions). A special requirement of the program was the control of sunlight and natural ventilation.

The intention was to guide students in the design of a building that addresses most of the issues common to a medium size building. Some aspects of the design remained at a schematic level, such as the structural system, the site development and building services, whilst other areas indicated a level of development beyond previous studio work. The use and functions of the major space were to be carefully studied and articulated.

Students were required to demonstrate an understanding of the

interdependence of various systems and explore meaningful relationships between them. Three principal building systems were considered: structure, envelope and interior.

Course Instructors: W. Chang, M. Priestman, S. Law, & Minjung
