It is very common to find students cycling and roller-skating on the motorcycle lanes as well as crossing the road without taking the pedestrian lanes in Guangzhou High Education Mega Centre.

The Management Committee of Guangzhou High Education Mega Centre plans to slow down the traffic in this area by making two lanes for pedestrians and bicycles from the six-lane central ring road.

According to the plan, the six-lane motorcycle ring road will be narrowed down as a four-lane one, while the outside lane will become a bicycle lane and the former middle lane will become a bus lane. In this way, the motorcycle traffic in central ring road and the inner ring road will be weakened.

Besides, the connections among the central, inner and external bicycle lanes will be improved; the pedestrians will be widened; trolley roads and canopies will be added to the footbridges.

There are 3 ring roads and 12 radiate roads in this island area while there is a southern expressway, a Beijing-Zhuhai highway 2 subway lines and 3 cross-river tunnels served as the connections to the outside.
