Shenzhen
SHENZHEN has installed a guide system on 1,000 buses covering 37 bus routes to help visually impaired residents while they commute.

With a special device designed for visually impaired residents, or with mobile phones that have the application installed, visually impaired residents can keep track of buses with voice reminders.

When the buses are within 80 meters of a stop, the device will give an audio notification.

Drivers and ticket sellers on the buses will also receive a signal that a visually impaired or physically challenged person is waiting at the stop they are approaching, so staff can reserve seats for them, Shenzhen Federation for Disabled Persons said Friday.

Around 5,000 to 6,000 visually impaired people live in the city, according to the federation’s data.
