Beijing plans to build at least one elderly care centre in each of the city’s 332 residential districts within two years as the aging problem becomes severe.

Beijing municipal government has invested 240 million Yuan in this project and 2 billion Yuan will come from social capital.

Mr Lu Jiehua, sociology professor at Peking University, says that introducing long-term nursing insurance into the social insurance system is the best way to sustain the service quality of  elderly care centre.
