10/12/2018
I had the great pleasure to represent HKIUD to receive the 2018 Award for Influential Agencies of China’s Urbanization in recognition of our contributions on ACTIONS FOR ACTIVE AGEING.

More than 200 well-known scholars and professional experts gathered in Nanning to discuss current and future trends in China's urbanisation at the 10th anniversary of the China International Urbanization Development Strategy Research Committee. Presented awards recognised people and institutions with active contribution in addressing the complex issues of China's urbanisation.

Fan Gang highlighted the important role of central government in adjusting urbanization strategies whilst mentioning that China's urban population still only makes up about 55%, and the urbanization process still has long way to go to reach that of developed countries. Fan stressed that the integration of transportation and public services is the key to the urban agglomerations.

The important report on China's urbanisation quality suggested that  Beijing, Shenzhen and Zhejiang ranked highest in central municipality, sub-provincial city and provincial rankings respectively.
The case study session
Panel discussions on five selected cases,  showcased the practices of rural revitalization through social, economic and environmental spectrums. I was pleased to be able to contribute to the evaluation of a rural/urban village restoration and revitalisation project at Qingtian in Shunde, Guangdong province, which has survived the strong impact of urbanisation, and maintains its unique regional style.
