Barry developed and organised as a guest lecturer for Hong Kong University (HKU) course RECO6061 Development Case Study from 16 to 24 July, 2014. There were 19 students in total participating this year, most of whom came from Department of Architecture of Pennsylvania State University.
The course aims to provide the Hong Kong context in briefing both local and overseas students on urbanisation and city development issues in the PRD. It is focused on providing both historical and cultural understanding of the city's various facets; outlining historical development; highlighting competing land use requirements; assessing social, political and economic issues and addressing programs of development and infrastructure.
It consists of three separate one day field visits:

Day 1
"the Kowloon Renaissance" focuses on the changes in housing and living conditions including the various aspects of public housing and infrastructure and considers the urban renewal undertaken in areas of Kowloon City, Kwun Tong and Kai Tak.

Day 2 
"Old Village - New Town" looks at life in the New Territories and demonstrates how the unique land issues there have shaped development.

Day 3
"Seeking Heritage - Creating Leisure" identifies the changing values related to heritage and explores the tourism and leisure opportunities of Hong Kong Island South.
Students are required to create a public, web-based journal, a blog, for example, where they are able to record their observations and insights acquired during the field courses. 

They need to critically highlight the influences of history and culture on development as well as the pressures of economics and internationalisation on local development patterns, construction methods and social behavior.
